TWO DOWN, ONE TO GO

LaFaro selling out – third Menagerie gig added to triumphant homecoming and album launch celebrations.

“Old school post hardcore sounds with just drums, guitars and big chunky distorted bass and Jonny Black mangling his vocals like he’s got a mouth full of drill bits, believe me, it’s a good thing."

Such has been the phenomenal demand for tickets, up and coming Belfast rock band LaFaro have been had to add a third homecoming gig at in Belfast music venue The Menagerie later this month.

The band originally organised a one off hometown gig on Monday April 26, in the middle of an extensive UK and Ireland touring schedule, to mark the release of their self titled debut album.

LaFaro’s vocalist Jonny Black said: “We knew there would be a demand, which is why we sold tickets in advance rather than on the door, so that we would not have to turn people away on the night, but we didn’t expected this. The Monday night sold out immediately so we took a chance with a second gig, that went just as quickly.”

A third night has now been added for Wednesday 28th but the band has warned that due to their touring commitments that this is the last possible Belfast gig they can fit in for several months.

The band has asked that fans who were not lucky enough to get a ticket do not try to get in on the night. Johnny Black again: “If you do not have a ticket already, sorry it is no go, there’s just not enough space to fit more people in. As soon as the schedule allows we will organise more dates in Belfast, but it might be a while before we can make it back.”

The response to the Belfast shows and LaFaro’s recent UK shows has also taken their record company, Smalltown America Records by surprise. Managing Director Andy Ferris said: “We have high hopes for LaFaro, but they have given me a headache. I am going to have to get more copies of the album pressed up in a hurry.”

Unashamedly louder and harder than most of the new breed of Irish rockers, LaFaro have earned a staunch hardcore hometown following, which is set to grow further afield with the release of their debut album and a relentless gigging schedule across the British Isles that will take them from Arbroath to Cork and most points in-between.

Hard, hot and heavy, even seasoned music critics have found LaFaro’s live set a bit frightening. They manufacture a high intensity onslaught in a similar vein to the Foo Fighters, Sonic Youth and Killing Joke. LaFaro are also a distinctively Irish band, their music is shot through the electric streaks of intelligence and humour that has always defined the very best Irish rockers, from Thin Lizzy through Stiff Little Fingers and Therapy?

LaFaro have been enthusiastically lauded in at home. Their 2007 EP release ‘Tupenny Nudger’ was named as the single of the year two years running. It also topped the Alternative Ulster magazine’s 2008 poll of the Top 50 Northern Irish tracks of the last five years.

LaFaro are: Jonny Black, guitar and vocal; Herb Magee, bass and vocal; Dave Magee, guitar and vocal; Alan Lynn - drums and vocal.

“The climax of their set is as unsettling as ever, and 'Mr Heskey' is the orgasm of relief, before they kick us out of bed, feeling ashamed, used but happy."
