If you’ve ever felt yourself feeling that most modern rock and hardcore bands stink like PePe Le Pew’s private parts after far too many pints of the Black Stuff, then fret no more as Chatham-based noise terrorists Let Our Enemies Beware are here to remind us just how exciting dislocated rhythms and razor-wire riffing can be. Occupying the same sonic territory as the likes of Hot Snakes, Slint and Faith No More at their most berserk, the four-piece (childhood friends Shareef Dahroug-guitar/vox, Adam Elwin-guitar/vox, James Boast-guitar/art and Chris Boast-drums) has a particularly perverted take on art-punk that has already won them dozens of drooling fanboys at Drowned In Sound, Rock Sound, the Fly and many more.
This September the band release their album ‘Against Karate’ into the world via the seminal Derry-based indie label Smalltown America on 28 September 2009. They are also set to go out on tour with much loved NI instrumental punks And So I Watch You From Afar but before all that, content yourselves with their suitably sinister video for ‘Pow! Right in the Kisser’ which features animated rabbits on bicycles and half-naked people in bunny costumes. The clip is the first installment of their eagerly anticipated ‘Rabbit Trilogy’ and if you click on the link (http://www.youtube.com/user/loebband) and leave them a lovely comment they assure us it’ll make their collective genitals swell up like pregnant swamp toads. Nice.
Bucking formulas and trends with wild abandon, Let Our Enemies Beware are taking rock ‘n’ roll to places where it’s never been before. But don’t just take our word it, here’s what the critics have to say:
The Sound-bites:
“Post-rock-cum-something-core bunch Let Our Enemies Beware prove that as long as there are guitars, there will be exciting British talent to abuse them.” Rock Sound
“Let Our Enemies Beware are roughly eighteen leagues ahead of ninety percent of British rock bands out there, right now, this instant.” Drowned In Sound
“We’re looking for really exciting, really forward thinking visceral rock & roll and this band are delivering right now.” Zane Lowe, BBC Radio One
“Let Our Enemies beware are a brilliantly talented and fresh act that are sure to blow you away and leave a buzzing in your ears. Ignore them at your peril.” The Mag
“Led by a zealous half-Egyptian frontman, they blend the dynamics of Mogwai with the exhilaration factor of Faith No More, winning over the doubters with their interesting grooves and chaotic demeanor.” The Fly
“[Let Our Enemies Beware] reminds you that guitar music can still be incendiary and thrilling.” Stephen McCauley, BBC Radio Ulster
