SOUNDS OF THE UNDERGROUND TOUR COMES TO EUROPE

Last Updated - Monday 13th March 2006, 16:01

Launched in the states last summer, the Sounds of the Underground (SOTU) tour was a huge hit, showcasing an intense blast of diversity and talent to hungry fans of metal and hardcore.

Even before the debut tour had taken place in the States it was mooted as a rival to Ozzfest - and from the reactions of fans, labels, critics and the bands themselves, the tour achieved everything it set out to do; providing a blistering celebration of hardcore music with a melting pot of the hottest bands on the US metal and hardcore scenes.

Featuring Lamb of God, Gwar, Unearth, Chimaria and Posion the Well (to name but a few) the first SOTU tour was an unrelenting success. As Mark from Chimaira recalls: “Last summer we did [the SOTU tour] in the States and it was a fucking blast. Killer diverse bands bringing intense metal and hardcore to the masses.”

Mark also recalls that “the biggest complaint I heard was that it didn’t come to Europe”. No surprise then that he is proud to announce Chimaira will be joining the 2006 SOTU tour – not only in the States, but also, for the first time, in Europe!

Describing the 2006 SOTU tour as a “kick-ass reunion” Mark encourages hardcore and metal fans to “get in line now, ‘cause these shows are going to sell the fuck out!”

Sounds of the Underground is organised by a formidable team; Paul Conroy and Carl Severson of Ferret Music, Tim Borror, Larry Mazer of Entertainment Services, promoter/partner House of Blues, label partners Metal Blade, Trustkill and Prosthetic Records, The Syndicate management and print sponsors Metal Hammer.

Confirmed bands for the ’06 tour are: CHIMAIRA, MADBALL, UNEARTH, TERROR, ALL THAT REMAINS & MANNTIS.

More monster acts will be announced soon, but the buzz surrounding the tour is already deafening. Madball’s Freddy Cricien believes the tour will make history when it lands in Europe in summer 2006. “We were part of the first SOTU tour in the USA and it was a great experience,” he says. “Now we’ve been invited to co-headline the European leg of it. What can I say … I’m honoured. Do yourself a favour, don’t miss this!!”

Ferret Music’s Paul Conroy, co-founder of the event, says the tour will reflect the “diversity and growth” of the underground heavy metal music scene. He says: “We’re very pleased to bring Sounds of the Underground across the Atlantic with some of the artists that played such a huge part in launching this tour in North America last summer. We’re proud to have Madball, Chimaira and Unearth onboard, as well as our friends in Terror, All that Remains and Manntis representing our first international tour venture.”

Sound of the Underground’s mantra is that “the voices of Metal and Hardcore will be heard”. You bet your ass they will.
