AS I LAY DYING ARE PUSHING BOUNDARIES … CHALLENGING THEIR FANS WITH SHARP AND BRUTAL NEW MUSIC.
AS I LAY DYING are working themselves to the limit. Their new album, released on June 20th 2005, has been described as “punishing and inspired; emotionally engaging and adrenalin-charged”. This is no exaggeration.
The Californian-based band is quickly establishing itself as first in command of a new breed of metal. A fresh, exciting, uncompromising sound that is mature and powerful, yet in touch with deeper levels of emotional intensity.
Creatively, the band is setting the standard at the zenith of modern hardcore’s evolution.
The band’s last album, “Frail Words Collapse”, sold over 300,000 copies in the US alone, placing them in the very top echelon of the metalcore genre. “Shadows Are Security” is an immediate classic which will no doubt accelerate the band’s unstoppable rise to the top. Frontman Tim Lambesis describes the new material as a “combination of aggression and melody [creating] much more than just great parts”, and label Metal Blade predict that the album will strike a consequential crossover.
In support of the album, single “Confined” is set for release and the band has created an unforgettable video, described by director Chris Sims as “a metal kid's wet dream”.
During the shoot, which took place at an abandoned air base in Tustin, California, the band had 8,000 gallons of water thrown at them. Lambesis recalls: “When we saw the rain machines, the big wind fan, and the lightning flashes, we knew the video would turn out killer. And although we got soaked and had to run to the heaters in between takes to keep from getting sick, it was well worth it for a video that came out amazing!”
And in addition to the new video, the band is also extending schedule of live appearances. Keen to bring the album to their fans, As I Lay Dying will follow-up a string of summer European club dates and a slot at the Download festival on June 12th with a place at the head of the annual Hell On Earth Tour in the autumn.
The formidable tour, which already takes in Germany, England, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Austria and Belgium (with further dates to be announced) is presented by two of the most influential metal labels of our time, Century Media and Metal Blade, who have joined forces with upcoming hardcore label Alveran Records and MAD Tourbooking.
A new annual European festival tour, Hell On Earth will take to the road between September 22nd and October 16th, showcasing the cream of international hardcore and metal. Appearing with As I Lay Dying are Evergreen Terrace, and Agents Of Man and, from Germany, Heaven Shall Burn, End Of Days and Neaera.
The album, the live dates and the new, killer video combine to make 2005 a year that will reinforce the talent and importance of As I Lay Dying – without question.
