As I Lay Dying make heavy music that is proficiently and soulfully driven. With sharp melodies and brutal vocals they possess a unique crossover style that reaches out to metal and hardcore audiences alike.
2004 was a blistering year for a band who already have a solid reputation for being one of the most energetic and accomplished bands on the international metal scene.
Their debut album for Metal Blade Records, “Frail Words Collapse”, has scanned over 250,000 copies in the US since its release on July 3, 2003. Even when the band had time off the road, the album continued to sell extremely well.
“Frail Words Collapse” took the no1 spot at metal radio’s CMJ Loud Rock charts and the band held the #1 spot for most downloaded metal song on MP3.com for over 6 months before the site closed.
The promo for “94 Hours” was in the top 15 best metal videos of 2004 and along with “Forever”, received phenomenal support from MTV’s Headbangers’ Ball and Fuse’s Uranium. “Forever” was also featured on the prestigious MTV Headbangers’ Ball CD which has sold over 230,000 copies in the US to date.
Press coverage for As I Lay Dying has been positive across the globe. Revolver, AP, Outburn and HM all ran features on the group and they were pegged as one of the 100 bands to watch in 2005 by AP Magazine, who dedicated a full page to the triumphant five-piece.
The band are currently recording their next record for Metal Blade who are so convinced of the band’s momentous potential, they are predicting the forthcoming album will make the highest Billboard Top 200 chart debut in the label’s history.
And in addition to their blossoming success as recording artists, As I Lay Dying continued to gather pace and even stronger support on the live circuit last year.
They performed as the main support for Killswitch Engage/In Flames 4-week co-headline tour, which averaged paid audiences of 2,200 per show. For the dates in Los Angeles, San Diego, Orlando and New York City over 3,000 fans were in attendance.
During their co-headline tour with Everytime I Die, the band sold out 27 of the 29 shows they played. They closed the western half of the tour, which climaxed with an outstanding gig in their hometown of San Diego, where the club was forced to move the show to a bigger room just to accomodate their avid audience.
The band also made time to rock Hellfest in 2004 and played some of the biggest Christian music festivals in the States, including both Cornerstone Festivals, the Purple Door Festival & the Ichthus Festival.
As I Lay Dying intend to dominate the live trail during 2005.
They are confirmed as a featured act for the New England Metalfest 2005 and as a main-stage headliner at the Cornerstone Festival in Florida. They will also play the Rock Am Ring (Nurburgring, GER) and Rock Am Park (Nurnberg, GER).
In addition to these major festivals, the band also embarks upon a headline US tour in March, with support from Throwdown, All That Remains and Winter Solstice.
The live dates will provide the perfect build-up to the new record “Shadows are Security “ – making 2005 the year in which the World sits up and gives in to As I Lay Dying.
